In September 2022, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted a resolution to host a High-level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (Pandemic PPR) in 2023, no later than the end of September 2023. This targeted High-level Meeting is urgent and long overdue, given the deadly and costly impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the existential threat that other pandemic threats pose to the collective well-being of humanity and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Modalities for the Pandemic PPR High-level Meeting — to define how the process will proceed — are currently taking shape. Pandemic Action Network, the Platform for ACT-A Civil Society and Community Representatives, and over 55 partners have called on leaders to ensure the High-level Meeting:
- Elevates international action on pandemic PPR as a whole-of-government, whole-of-society priority beyond the health sector
- Drives long-term ownership and accountability for the pandemic PPR agenda
- Prioritizes civil society and multi-stakeholder engagement at the earliest stages
Read our joint letter to leaders detailing priorities and principles to guide the Pandemic PPR High-level Meeting. We collectively look forward to ensuring that this High-level Meeting serves as a meaningful and transformative catalyst for the critical and cross-cutting pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response agenda.
