Cold weather, pandemic fatigue and winter holidays combined to make a dangerous
recipe in the Northern Hemisphere at the end of 2020. In response, the Pandemic
Action Network created a mini-campaign to package COVID-19 prevention behaviors in
a festive and shareable way.
Our #SpreadCHEER tips, developed with behavioral scientists convened by the Federation of American Scientists, gave families scientifically sound ways to make the holidays both merry and safe. Tips were shared with the help of the Network’s media partners and celebrity influencers. The campaign also encouraged people to show how they #SpreadCHEER not COVID through social media messages, gaming content, and iHeart radio PSAs.
We know there is a fatigue with big numbers, but as we think about the holidays, it is important to think of the personal context and individual impact. Nearly all of us have someone in our social circle who has had the virus and who have been impacted economically.
Like many other things during the global #pandemic, holiday traditions need a makeover.
